We're about three months into publishing The Shift. Thirteen editions, a lot of founder conversations, and one event seven weeks away. Before we get into the final push towards Barcelona, I wanted to pull together the one thing that stuck from each edition.

Consider it a field notes summary from the first chapter.

We walked away from SaaStock and built something new. The lesson from that was simple: doing something cosmetic when the situation calls for something structural is a decision you can feel in your gut before you can articulate it. We knew a repositioning wasn't enough. We launched Shift AI anyway.

Thirty founders in Comporta for two days taught us that nobody has the blueprint. The ones who say they do are probably selling something. What everyone wanted wasn't more content. It was knowing what their peers were actually doing, unpolished and unfiltered.

Sarah from Make reframed what AI transformation actually means. It isn't an AI project. It's a business restructure that happens to run on AI. The companies treating it as anything less are going to find themselves doing it again in eighteen months.

The GTM finding that keeps coming up: AI has fundamentally changed how software founders build. It hasn't changed how they sell. Not yet. Distribution and trust are still the moat. If anything, they're worth more now because building got cheaper.

Des Traynor gave us the best test for whether a company is genuinely AI-native or just AI-adjacent. Look at how the designers think. A real AI-native designer doesn't start with screens. They start by asking whether the thing needs a screen at all.

His other provocation was the new owner test. If someone inherited your company tomorrow with no emotional attachment to how it was built, what would they actually keep? The list is usually shorter than founders want it to be.

Semir Jahic runs Salesmotion with two people and no plans to hire. The operating principle underneath everything he does: if you find yourself doing something twice, the question is whether AI can do it from now on. Not eventually. Now.

Adam from Airspeed made the case that GTM is the hardest place in a business to apply AI, and the proof points are still lagging behind the tools. The magic experiences are coming. They're just not here yet, and founders who claim otherwise are usually overselling.

Alex Dekic at Alguna landed the pricing insight that I think most SaaS founders are underestimating. Pricing is now a product line. The top AI companies are iterating on it every ninety days. If you're treating it as something you set once and revisit annually, you're already behind.

Transforming Europe started as a question I kept getting asked:

Who are the European companies actually leading the shift?

The lesson from building it was that Europe has a real story to tell on AI. It just isn't being told loudly enough or clearly enough from inside the continent.

The pattern matching edition came out of the same Comporta observation. The gap founders are trying to close isn't information. There's plenty of that. It's honest peer conversation, the kind where people say what's actually working and what got quietly shelved.

The valley edition was the most personal. We hit a hard patch in June. Deals stalled, team confidence wobbled, and the words SaaStock 2.0 got mentioned. The thing I keep coming back to is that the work you do in the dip is the work that compounds later. It doesn't feel that way from inside it.

Jay Hack at ClickUp gave us the clearest framework for agent adoption. It follows a hierarchy and you can't skip steps. Autocomplete, then synchronous sidebar, then asynchronous agents running without direct oversight. Most companies want to jump to the third without going through the first two. It doesn't work that way.
